Unbelievable Malanadu Escape: Kanhangad's Hidden Gem Awaits! (Oh My God, It's a Real Place!) - A Review That's Actually Real
Okay, buckle up buttercups, because I just got back from… wait for it… Unbelievable Malanadu Escape. And believe me, the name is trying to live up to itself. Kanhangad, for those of you, like me, who had to Google it, is in Kerala, India. And this place? Well, it’s… an experience. Let's untangle this whole thing, shall we? I'm warning you, I'm a bit of a whirlwind.
First Impressions: Finding the Hidden Gem (and Wondering if it Actually Exists)
Okay, first off, getting there is a journey. Not a complaint, mind you, but be prepared for some winding roads. But, the moment you access the property, you realize they weren't kidding about the "escape." Lush greenery, clean air… it’s immediately a breath of fresh, non-city air. Accessibility wise, yeah, it's not perfect. While they do mention accommodations for the disabled, I didn’t see a lot in the way of clear ramps or specific features. So, call ahead and ask VERY specific questions if you need that.
The Room: My Sanctuary (or Maybe Just a Really Nice Box?)
My room? Pretty darn good. I mean, the air conditioning was a godsend after the heat. And that blackout curtains? Genius! Slept like a baby, despite the jungle noises. They even had a complimentary tea setup (essential!). The Wi-Fi [free] worked surprisingly well (a huge plus!). There was Internet access – wireless available, and an Internet access – LAN too – which is a nice touch for the few of us who still remember how to use Ethernet cables . There was even a Laptop workspace, I did manage to get a little work done for this review in between the pool dips. Bathrobes and slippers? Luxury! They included Bedding, Towels and linens also. I had a Refrigerator and they give you Free bottled water, although I still felt the need to buy more! They included a Mirror and a Closet, and let me assure you, it was pretty cozy. There were Satellite/cable channels which was nice for the evenings. Also, they provide some Toiletries for you. I was happy to see they also included a Smoke detector, something that brings comfort. Also, I had some extra long bed to fully stretch my arms and legs. All in all, a great room.
Cleanliness and Safety: Phew! They Take It Seriously (As They Should!)
Okay, I'm a bit of a germophobe. Sue me. But listen, these guys are ON IT. Lots of hand sanitizer everywhere. Anti-viral cleaning products being flaunted, Rooms sanitized between stays, And most importantly, Staff trained in safety protocol - which honestly made me feel a lot safer to relax and enjoy knowing they take this seriously, especially in today's world. They also had Doctor/nurse on call (good for peace of mind) and First aid kit too, not that I used it. I believe they do Breakfast with room service too.Safe dining setup? Check. They even mentioned Sterilizing equipment. They also have Smoke alarms installed in every room in case things go south! This is something that shows a lot of care.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking: Food, Glorious Food (and Some Minor Mishaps)
Restaurants: Yes! Several dining options, each with its own unique charm. The Asian cuisine in restaurant was amazing and they did give an Asian breakfast too. I found a Vegetarian restaurant with plenty of tasty options. The Breakfast [buffet] was pretty standard but okay, but the buffet in restaurant was alright. Room service [24-hour]? Score! Perfect for those late-night cravings. They provide Bottle of water, which is nice, but I found myself ordering more. They have an A la carte in restaurant too and I wanted to try it. They even have a Poolside bar. I didn't get to try the Desserts in restaurant but probably should have. They also have Coffee/tea in restaurant, which I'm a sucker for.
However, Here's the Real Tea:
The Service, Sometimes, is a Bit…Slow: Don’t be in a massive rush. But it's part of the charm, right? You're on "island time," or, in this case, "Malanadu time."
I had one lunch… I ordered a salad at the Snack bar and it was…well, it wasn't on my top list. But hey, you win some, you lose some! But I still kept myself happy with the Soup in restaurant.
The Happy hour? I missed that. I have to try it next time!
Things to Do: Relax, Recharge, and Maybe Sweat a Little (If You're Feeling It)
Relaxation Station:
The Pool with view? Absolutely stunning. Spent most of my time there. *The Spa/sauna was nice too. *They offer Massage. *For the fitness freaks, they have a Fitness center and a Gym/fitness. *They offer some Foot bath. *If you're feeling fancy, explore Body scrub and Body wrap too. *Also, a Steamroom.
The Rest of the Goodies:
- Luggage storage and Doorman? Check and check.
- Daily housekeeping? Yep, my room sparkled!
- Laundry service and Ironing service? Convenient!
- Currency exchange and Cash withdrawal? Handy.
- Car park [free of charge]? Always appreciated. They have a Car park [on-site], also.
- They have Audio-visual equipment for special events, for business meetings.
- They provide Convenience store.
- They provides Contactless check-in/out.
- They have Elevator.
- You can get your Invoice provided. They also have Meeting/banquet facilities, and also Meetings, and also Meeting stationery, so you can have a business trip here!
- They have an Outdoor venue for special events, for something more special.
- They even have a Shrine.
The "Unbelievable" Factor: My Moment of Pure Bliss
Okay, so, what really made this place special? The swimming pool! I am not a fan of the sun, it always burns my skin. So, I sat under the shade of a tree. I spent HOURS just soaking in the beauty. The water was the perfect temperature, the views were breathtaking, and… I swear I could feel my brain cells actively repairing themselves. It was a moment of pure, unadulterated relaxation. And THAT, my friends, is what you pay for. That’s the “unbelievable” part.
For the Kids: They are Family/child friendly, with some Babysitting service. They do have Kids facilities, and also a Kids meal.
Overall Verdict: Go, But With Realistic Expectations.
Unbelievable Malanadu Escape is a diamond in the rough. It’s not perfect. But it’s real. It's charming. And once you get past the minor hiccups, it's a truly wonderful place to unwind and reconnect with yourself (and maybe get off your phone for a few hours).
Final Score: 4 Out of 5 Stars (minus one star for the occasional slow service!)

Escape to Hanoi: Glamping in a Mongolian Yurt!
Alright, buckle up buttercups, because we're about to dive headfirst into my potential Malanadu Tourist Home experience in Kanhangad, India. This isn't your meticulously crafted, glossy brochure itinerary. This is… well, this is me planning a trip, which, let me tell you, is almost as chaotic as navigating rush hour traffic in Mumbai. Prepare for some serious detours, questionable decisions, and maybe, just maybe, a moment of genuine zen.
Day 1: Arrival & The Great Kanhangad Quest (Pray for My Sanity)
- Morning (6:00 AM -ish): Wake up. Or, more likely, stumble out of bed, fueled by instant coffee and the vague memory of booking a flight. The sheer thought of airports gives me the shakes. Pray I've actually packed. I have a sneaking suspicion I’ll forget my toothbrush. Classic. Flight from… somewhere (too early to remember) to Mangalore. This is where the real adventure begins. Or ends. We'll see.
- Mid-Morning (10:00 AM -ish): Arrive in Mangalore. Breathe. Survive customs. Find my ride to Kanhangad. Did I book one? Did I remember to check? Deep breaths. Okay, deep breaths. Pretend everything is under control.
- Afternoon (1:00 PM -ish): Arrive at Malanadu Tourist Home. Finally. Check-in. Pray the room isn't infested with rogue cobras or something equally terrifying. First impressions… okay, it's probably going to be… interesting. The website photos are always a lie, let's be honest. I unpack, try to make the room feel like my own personal sanctuary (good luck, self). After the flight, I'm going to collapse in a heap and need a nap… a long one.
- Afternoon (4:00 PM -ish): This is where things get dicey. The plan is to be all adventurous and explore Kanhangad. But honestly? After a long flight, the allure of the bed is strong. Let's be honest – I’ll probably end up horizontal, watching some trashy Bollywood movie on my laptop, and ordering room service. What can I say? I'm a sucker for convenience. If I do manage to drag myself out, it's a wander around the local area. I'm expecting a sensory overload. The smells, the sounds, the people! This is going to be amazing, or possibly traumatizing. Either way, it’s a story.
- Evening (7:00 PM -ish): Dinner. This is where I REALLY start getting excited. I'm dreaming of the food already. I'll want some authentic Kerala cuisine. I hope they have something with coconut milk. I'll try everything! Maybe I will go to a restaurant or if I am lucky, I'll eat at the tourist home. I'm hoping for a meal that will knock my socks off after I get back from the restaurant if I feel like it.
Day 2: The Bekal Fort Debacle (And Maybe Some Beach Time)
- Morning (8:00 AM -ish): Wake up, surviving the night. Breakfast is a must. This is going to be a hearty one, because this is the day I attempt to visit Bekal Fort. This place looks incredible in the pictures. I plan to conquer the views, the history, and my crippling fear of heights (kidding, mostly).
- Morning (10:00 AM -ish): The Great Bekal Fort Expedition Begins! Transport is the first challenge. Did I arrange a taxi? Did I even plan how to get there? Or am I walking? (Highly unlikely, since it's probably a good distance). Hopefully, I can navigate the public transport. My geography skills are… questionable.
- Afternoon (12:00 PM -ish): Arrive at Bekal Fort. Hopefully, I haven't gotten hopelessly lost. First impressions: Wow. I need to take at least a hundred pictures. Wander around, soaking in the history and the views. Try not to fall off anything. Imagine the stories this fort could tell. I’m already making up historical drama in my head.
- Afternoon (2:00 PM -ish): Lunch. Hopefully, I find a nice little place nearby. I’m starving after all the exploring. Or I'll packed something in my backpack with lots of water. I also must watch out for the "Delhi Belly", the traveler's worst nightmare.
- Afternoon (3:00 PM -ish): Beach Time! Bekal Beach is the plan. Kick off my shoes, feel the sand between my toes, watch the waves. Maybe even attempt to swim (I am a terrible swimmer, but I am very brave).
- Evening (6:00 PM -ish): Travel back to Malanadu Tourist Home and collapse for the evening. I’ve also spent a bit of time researching what the local culture is.
- Evening (7:00 PM -ish): Dinner at a restaurant. Or room service. You know, depending on how ambitious I feel. Post pictures on social media. Brag.
Day 3: The Culture Conundrum (Or, the Day I Attempt to Be Cultured)
- Morning (9:00 AM -ish): Sleep in. I'm a traveler, not a morning person.
- Morning (11:00 AM -ish): This is where things get… educational. I'm trying to learn something. I may visit a local temple or a museum. This is the part where I attempt to immerse myself in the local culture. Prepare for some awkward attempts at conversation.
- Afternoon (1:00 PM -ish): Lunch at a place near the temple/museum. Or at the tourist home. Gotta love the convenience of having the hotel.
- Afternoon (3:00 PM -ish): Shopping for souvenirs. This never goes well. I'm terrible at bargaining. I’ll probably overpay for a trinket I don't need. But, hey, it's all part of the experience, right?
- Evening (6:00 PM -ish): Evening activities? Maybe a local dance performance? Or maybe I'll just find a cozy spot and read. Or watch the Indian edition of "Survivor."
- Evening (7:00 PM -ish): Final dinner. Reflect on my trip. Make a list of everything I did wrong. Feel a pang of sadness that it's almost over.
Day 4: Departure & The Aftermath (Goodbye, Kanhangad!)
- Morning (7:00 AM -ish): Wake up. Pack. Have one last, desperate rummage through my luggage, hoping I haven't left anything vital behind. (Spoiler alert: I probably have).
- Morning (8:00 AM -ish): Final Kerala breakfast. Savor every bite.
- Morning (9:00 AM -ish): Check out. Give a heartfelt goodbye to the nice staff (or at least, a nod and a smile if my attempts at human interaction failed).
- Morning (10:00 AM -ish): Farewell, Kanhangad! Transport back to Mangalore.
- Afternoon (1:00 PM -ish): Depart from Mangalore.
- Afternoon/Evening: Somewhere (depending on the flight!): Reflect on my trip. This is also when I promise to learn more about Indian culture and history.
Important Notes & Ramblings:
- Food: I'm prepared to gain ten pounds. I love Indian food; there is no way I will be able to stop eating!
- Spiciness: I'm assuming the food will be fiery. I've stocked up on water and yogurt, just in case.
- Transportation: I'm anticipating getting lost at least once. Public transport in India is a rite of passage, right?
- Language: I'll attempt to learn a few basic phrases. Probably only the food-related ones, though.
- Pace: This itinerary is a suggestion, not a commandment. If I want to chill on my bed and play with my phone, then I shall.
- Imperfections: This trip will probably be messy, slightly disastrous, and wonderfully imperfect. And that's precisely the way I want it.
- Emotional Rollercoaster: Prepare for highs (delicious food, incredible scenery) and the lows (potential travel mishaps, my own clumsiness).
- Expectations: I go with flexible expectations. I'm going to appreciate the little moments, embrace the chaos, and try to be present. That is my real goal.
Wish me luck! I have a feeling that Kanhangad is going to be quite an adventure. And the beauty is that anything could happen. And that anything could be amazing.

Unbelievable Malanadu Escape: Kanhangad's Hidden Gem Awaits! (Or Does It?) - The Honestly Messy FAQ
So, what *is* this "Malanadu Escape" thing anyway? Sounds suspiciously like a brochure's overused adjective...
Okay, okay, guilty. The brochure probably spun a yarn about "untouched beauty" and "rejuvenating escape." Basically, it's a guesthouse/homestay (the lines get blurry!) in Kanhangad, somewhere in Kerala, India. They boast about the Malanadu region, all rolling hills and supposed untouched-ness. Truthfully? It's a bit of a trek to get there. We're talking winding roads, potentially some motion sickness if you're prone (ME!), and a general sense of "are we *there* yet?" for the entire journey. The whole "escape" part hinges on whether you, like me, find actual escapism in being cut off from Wi-Fi... which, I'll admit, was a *huge* plus for me. I'm a digital addict. It cured me, slowly, but surely. And maybe it'll make me an actual hermit in the future. Who knows?
Is it actually "unbelievable"? Because let's be honest, brochures LIE.
Ah, the million-dollar question! Well, "unbelievable" is subjective. I wouldn't go quite that far. Let me phrase it this way: The *scenery*? Kinda breathtaking, especially after the monsoon. Think lush, green everything, enough rice paddies to make your Instagram followers weep with envy (if you have the signal). The *experience* itself? That's where it gets interesting. It's not a slick, polished resort. It's more...rustic. And by rustic, I mean the shower might only produce lukewarm water at certain times of the day. And the power? Flickering friend, flickering foe. Embrace it! It's part of the "charm." Or, you know, the slightly messy, slightly unpredictable reality of travelling.
What's the food like? Because good food can make or break a vacation, in my humble opinion.
Oh, the food! Okay, listen up, foodies. This is where Malanadu shines. They serve authentic Kerala cuisine. Expect spicy curries, fluffy appams (a MUST-TRY!), and fresh-caught seafood (if you’re lucky). The lady of the house, bless her heart, is a culinary wizard. I swear, the fish curry they made? I'd eat it every single day for the rest of my life. That might be a slight exaggeration, but honestly, it was divine. My only minor complaint? Be prepared for the spice level. They don’t skimp on the chillies! But hey, a bit of fire never hurt anyone, right? (Again, speaking as someone who still regrets ordering a vindaloo in Goa once. I cried. True story.) Also, they were *incredibly* accommodating to my, shall we say, *particular* dietary preferences. Which leads me to...
Can I actually customize my meal if I am a picky eater?
YES. The family were SO incredibly understanding. I'm talking, I could (and maybe did) ask for extra plain rice, to have less heat, to try new things. They are *really* good at adapting to your needs. Just let them know in advance. They want you to be happy. This really changed the whole experience for me. Really good quality food, the best of all, but even more so, they made sure I was comfortable. I honestly can't convey how much it meant to me - because I did find the food challenging initially. So. Yeah. Very good marks for cooking, and adapting.
What is there *to do* besides eating delicious food and potentially suffering from chili-induced tears?
Okay, this is where the "escape" part really kicks in. Pace yourselves:
- Hiking: Go explore the hills! There are trails, apparently. I tried one, promptly got lost, and spent a delightful hour wondering if I'd be eaten by a sloth. (Probably not, but the thought was entertaining). So, wear sensible shoes, bring water, and maybe... don't go alone. Or, do! It's your adventure. Just... be safe.
- Beach Visits: The coast's nearby. You can hit up some beaches. Some are beautiful, some are... well, they're beaches. Pack sunscreen. Wear a hat. And, frankly, don't be surprised if cows are lounging on the sand. It's India.
- Visit the local area: I visited the fort. I definitely didn't get the name, and it kind of just looks like a bit of a pile of rocks and some very old walls, but it does have a view. And the local temples, of which there are many.
- Read a Book/Chill: Honestly, the best thing I did: Sit on the veranda with my book, listen to the birds, and just... be. It's therapeutic, okay? Especially if you're escaping from the relentless hum of modern life. Just make sure you've got a fully charged Kindle. Or, you know, a good old-fashioned paperback and a flashlight. You've been warned about the power situation.
- Do Nothing at All: That's the whole point. Embrace the indolence! Sometimes, doing absolutely nothing is the greatest luxury of all. Seriously, it's the best.
What type of people would enjoy this experience? (And who should probably steer clear?)
Alright, let's be real. If you're expecting a five-star luxury hotel with room service and a pool boy, you're in the wrong place. RUN AWAY. Run far, far away. Malanadu is for:
- The Adventurous Soul: Someone who doesn't mind a little rough-and-tumble, a few quirks, and a genuine cultural experience.
- Nature Lovers: You appreciate the beauty of the natural world, value peace and quiet, and are not afraid of the occasional insect visitor. (They're everywhere. Get used to it.)
- Foodies: Particularly those who love authentic, flavorful, and potentially spicy cuisine.
- Digital Detoxers: If you crave a break from your phone and the internet, this is your heaven. (Seriously, it was pure bliss.)
- You require constant Wi-Fi. It's spotty, to say the least.
- You're a high-maintenance traveler.
- You can't handle the occasional power outage or a slightly less-than-perfect shower.
- You are afraid of the "exotic".
Is it worth the hassle of getting there?
Ugh, that's the million-dollarFindelicious Hotels
